“A poodle? Aren’t those that… super fancy dogs?” Marcus asks as he sets his things aside and follow after Bernard. “Why would somebody dump a dog like that? And in this weather? Jeeze. Some people I swear…”

But his apartment didn’t allow pets. You’d be lucky to get a goldfish past inspection much less a poodle. “If he’s a stray the best we can really do is get the dog shelter around to come pick him up… my place doesn’t even allow dogs…”

“Yes, they are. I really don’t know why someone would dump him, he seemes perfectly healthy, he doesn’t bite…”

So Marcus couldn’t adopt him, either. This was going to be a problem.

“Too bad Lucy already finished her schedule. If she was here, sure she’d like to adopt him…”, Bernard added, as they left behind the building. The dog was still there, waiting for them.

“Maybe we could get him a box, or something similar, to shelter him while we couldn’t find him a new owner?”, he asked Marcus, petting the dog’s head.

“A box? Look at him, he’s huge! It might as well be a refrigerator box, these dogs get huge…” Marcus said as he watched the dog carefully. “He looks pretty well groomed. Maybe he’s just lost? Maybe, maybe make a post about it somewhere? Some local community website? Someone who knows his owners might see it and let them know?” he asked.

Marcus had just been cleaning up a mess in the cafe area when Bernard suddenly rushed up to him. The red head blinked in surprise at such a question.

“What? A pet?” he asked. “Why?”

“I found a black poodle outside…” he explained. “I’ve been waiting with him for a while, but no one came to pick him up. He doesn’t even has a collar. I guess someone abandoned him… but I can’t take care of him, I already had enough problems convincing my neighbors that Mozart wouldn’t cause any trouble…”

He gestured to the man, inviting him to follow him. “Come with me. It’s a nice dog, I think it suits you. Just look at him, and we’ll see what we’ll do with him.”

“Hey, hey, calm down…”, he caressed gently his back. Why would someone leave behind this dog? That poodle was a nice creature, he seemed perfectly healthy, and he didn’t bite him when he had the chance. This dog had been well tamed, and it could be seen on his behaviour.

Bernard cupped gently the doog’s face between his hands, staring into his tender eyes. “I wish I could do something more for you.” He mumbled, caressing softly his sides. “I really can’t take you to my apartment, I already have a cat, and Mozart doesn’t like dogs at all. But maybe… maybe Marcus could take care of you!” A small smile lit his face. “Just wait a moment here. I’ll ask him.”

He got up, and walked quickly back to the Museum, knowing exactly where he was going. “Marcus! Would you like to have a pet?”

“Yeah, well. Besides the guy part and the freckles.” Marcus smiles faintly before he kneels down onto one knee for her so she can look at him closer. “I can do a fair number of things, but I can’t fly like you can. I can jump pretty far and high, though…!”

You didn’t get everything? [Aqua tilts her head. She had all of Father’s powers, even if they weren’t as strong.] Do you have three parents, too?

“Mmhm.” Marcus shook his head. “I just had a mom and a dad. Mom was like.. well. Megamind, and my Dad was like Metro Man. Not them, though, but of their kind. You see?” he asks. “So I guess you got everything, huh? Super hearing, sight, laser eyes, strength, flight, invulnerability…?”

Marcus hesitates. With kids its always better to just be out right honest about some things. She looked upset. Whatever it was, it had hurt her enough to leave her in this state. He moves to an ally way and just stands beyond the entrance, meaning she doesn’t have to follow him to see.

“I mean like this.”

He lifts his wrist and toys with the watch. His image, the pale, red haired, freckled face dissolves in a blink of an eye revealing pale blue skin with purple freckles just where his regular ones are. His eyes remain the same color, one blue, one green, but now they’re brighter. And his head; bald, completely, but just that fraction bit bigger than a normal persons but not the size of Megamind’s. Unlike Aqua, though, his ears are pointed, tinting purple at the tips.

“See?” he asks, lowering his arm. “Like that.”

Oh, wow. You are like me. [She stands up and walks closer so that she can look him over a little better, her fear and upset temporarily forgotten in exchange for pure curiosity.]

That is… incredibly right. Very observant!

“Ah, well ya see…” Marcus bit his bottom lip before gesturing to himself. “I’m a bit like you I guess. I mean. Powers and… hm. I’m not sure if I should show you here or anywhere since you know me from a bar of soap don’t you?” he dusted himself off again as he stood up. “But let’s just say you’re not the only one like yourself around here…”

[She frowns more deeply. Like her? Powers? Her mind races through the possibilities. Was he a version of her from another dimension? Maybe he just meant alien… That made the most sense.] I don’t know you and I don’t trust you, but I would like to know what you mean.
